In the year twenty-seventeen

I got the urge to add some photos for January and February, 2017. I have more photos that I'll post at a later date from our trip to Minnesota to be with Wyatt, our trip to Colorado on our way to be with Wyatt, and some other events, but thought I'd spend this Sunday afternoon with this first group. It's random but oh well!

We got blanketed in snow this year. When all the little kids grow up they will always wonder why it doesn't snow like they remember from their childhood.

I love sycamore trees. This "Monet moment" is of a rain-soaked Sycamore tree outside the family history center. I walk by it every day on my way to the conference center. I often give it a pat.

This is my other Monet Moment looking out from the shower through the pebbled glass and seeing the colors of my green hand towel, pink hair dryer and lilac bathrobe. I'm saving this in case I ever want to paint it. I think it's awesome! Also I got a good laugh out of Andrew's comment when I put it on InstaGram and he wrote "Glad the camera wasn't facing IN!"
Me too!

Speaking of "old" people, (which is what would have been captured if the camera were facing "in"), this is a photo of my Grandmother Julia Roundy Hiatt being honored at the Tabernacle in Salt Lake City. Look at the worlds of fabric they have covering the walls and draping from the ceiling of the tabernacle. Grandpa Hiatt sent me this next part when I asked him how to find her: " Count the white certificates starting from the left. Julia Roundy Hiatt is the pleasingly plump lady seventh in from the left, wearing a light-colored dress.
The award was for selling the Era. All who sold 100% (meaning they had sold the Era to every family in the stake) won an award.
She always was good at selling, hence the many years at Shorb's Stationary in her later times."

Here is Jane after one of her basketball games. I didn't get any action shots because I was busy NOT glancing at the mean lady at the other end of the bench. She wouldn't let up on the refs and was as obnoxious as all get-out. I finally gave her a withering glance and she yelled, " WAS I TALKING TO YOU?" I was stunned! Her husband immediately said, "Hey, settle down" and she DID!  But I moved down to the other end of the row so I wouldn't be tempted to shoot her another withering glance because she could have been packin'!

Here is a woman who as far as I know, is NOT packin'. My dad bought her this pretty navy blue suit and we had it tailored and it fits her beautifully. Denny bought her these dark nylons and I came over and helped her try everything on and brought one of my necklaces and her earrings. She looks stunning! 86 years old. She was befuddled by the black nylons though, having never worn anything but sheer nylons. I don't believe we will ever see them on her again.

The last week of January is birthday week at the Springville Sweat house. Truman George turned the big ONE on January 21st.

Blurry picture of the kids, but the cupcakes are so cute. Cindy had 12 pictures showing each month of his life and we had to put them in order. We all failed!

Tru was much more circumspect than lots of kids when he addressed his cupcake (think LAUREN who dove in head-first). He was sick, and ended up with pneumonia poor little guy!

Six of the seven - Correction OOPS Amy corrected me they're all seven in this photo!

When I teach piano sometimes Eli is at the computer in the piano room. I watched his fingers flying over the keys and said buddy you're fast! Yep, grandma, I type 75 wpm. (A chip off the old block :-)

The second of the three birthdays was Calvin's and we got there in time to see a houseful of six-year-old boys. There's a poem by A.A. Milne that Cindy's mom showed me 10 years ago, but whenever I think of using it on a birthday card the grandchild is turning seven. But this year I actually remembered it on time. It goes like this:

When I was One,
I had just begun.

When I was Two,
I was nearly new.

When I was Three,
I was hardly me.

When I was Four,
I was not much more.

When I was Five,
I was just alive.

But now I am six,
I'm as clever as clever

So I think I'll be six now
Forever and ever.

Happy 6th Birthday Calvin J!
Tony's birthday was the next day and we told him "happy birthday old person."

Truman loves "Red Hat, Blue Hat"

Learning the ways of the remote from the master.

I couldn't resist taking this photo when we came down for piano these two matched.

We watched the Super Bowl with Tony's family again this year. It was more fun watching Truman peak out from the opening in the railing at us, just exactly like Andrew used to do 41 years ago when we lived in a two-story condo in Reno.

Calvin spent some of his time with his Lego collection. If Amy and Dave joined their collection with Tony and Cindy, they would have a lot of Legos!

I got to visit with my first cousin George Bean who stopped by the Conference Center while he was in town for the RootsTech convention. I loved him dearly when I was growing up (still do, but never see him). I didn't know my cousins very well since we lived in La Grande and there were no grandparents alive to gather everyone together but I sure loved the times I spent with George and his brother Dan! They lived in Portland and are the youngest of my aunt Barbara's seven children.

Well, that's all for now. Time to go make some orange chicken, fried potatoes and asparagus!

XOXOXO
Mom
